- What is therapy? - Therapy allows the individual to explore their early experiences and relationships in order to become aware of the patterns, beliefs and behaviours they bring into everyday life. This allows the person to make sense and meaning of their life and the helpful and unhelpful aspects to these patterns.
- What is counselling? - Counselling helps the person the work on issues or problems that are getting in the way of their living life fully. Counselling sessions work towards goals that help with coping strategies to manage the difficult aspects of these issues.
- Can I bring a friend or support person? - Counselling sessions are a safe place to bring issues and explore consequences and options without having to protect a family member or support person. Hence it is best to come alone. If this is too hard then we can talk about possible options when you contact me for an appointment.
- Are my sessions confidential? - Counselling sessions are confidential as set out in the Code of Ethics for NZAC and NZCCA
- What do I need to bring with me? - There is nothing specific that you need to bring.
- How can I prepare for sessions? - If possible, think about what the issues are and what you expect to get from sessions.
- How many sessions do I come for? - This depends on what you are wanting to work on. Counselling work is generally a shorter time than therapy, sometimes a few sessions can be all that is required and for some it is longer term. This is discussed in the early sessions.
- What services are available when there is illness, accident or death of a pet? It is difficult if your pet is unwell, suffers an injury or dies . Grief counselling is available for people when they are coping with loss or illness of their pet.
